History of The Belleville Club
A Belleville Tradition Since 1914
The Belleville Club was established in 1914 and has been part of downtown Belleville for more than a century.
Located in a distinctive 19th-century building at the corner of Bridge and Pinnacle Streets, the Club occupies a site with deep local and architectural history. S.E. Carman served as the Club’s first president, with the Honourable Henry Corby as Honorary President.
In the Club’s early years, bedrooms on the upper floors accommodated both permanent residents and members and guests visiting from out of town. It offers an interesting glimpse into an era when private clubs served not only as social gathering places, but also as a home away from home.
The Story of Our Building
Pinnacle Street itself holds an interesting place in Belleville’s history. It was once part of the city’s historic street railway, a story commemorated by the heritage plaque displayed on the Club building.

On New Year’s Eve in 1994, a devastating fire swept through the Club. Fortunately, the main structure was saved, and an extensive restoration was completed the following year.
Today, many of the features that have given The Belleville Club its character for generations remain: high ceilings, expansive staircases, hardwood floors, rich oak panelling and architectural details reflecting the building’s Victorian heritage.

Honouring Our Past. Looking to the Future.
For more than 110 years, The Belleville Club has evolved alongside the community it calls home. While its history and traditions remain an important part of its identity, the Club continues to evolve as a place for connection, friendship, business and community.
Our history is something we are proud to preserve — and something we continue to build upon.
